Huka O Te Rangi Kaa
From the following messages I was alerted the name of man with the surname Kaa whose whakapapa has been difficult to trace. His name was Huka O Te Rangi. The following messages were received from his descendants. They shed some light on who he was, but that's about where it ends"
"The story goes…and they call Raglan home…that my Grandfather (Huka-o-te-rangi Kaa) arrived in Raglan and married a couple a couple of Tainui women, never to disclose his whakapapa…it seems it was a no go zone. Down through the years the talk has been that the ties are all back to Ngati Porou however none of the old mans children felt they wanted to explore the connection for whatever reason. Apparantly his birth is dated around the very early 1900’s." - Luke Kaa-Morgan, E-mail 06/10/2005
"My father in law was a very reserved man about his past and it has been hard to find out anything about him (not that we are looking). All I can tell you is his name was Huka O Te Rangi Kaa and he died in June 1962. He lived in Te Akau and Raglan for a good part of his life married twice and has a large family from those marriages." - Cath Kaa, E-mail 10/04/2006
"Kia Ora, my name is Melissa. I was born in Huntly and raised my my dad, Tametame Kaa. His fathers name was Te Hukarangi Kaa, all though I am not sure if we have any connections. He was from Nelson but was raised [in] Whaingarao (which is Raglan). My father was raised from another whanau: Mokomoko Rongo whanau. It's good to see how whanau find their roots and if in fact we are [of the same whanau], I hope to hear from you soon. We have a big whanau down here and I would be glad to hear from you all.i am not used to this, but just starting to get into looking for my dads roots." - Melissa Marsh, Guestbook 16/10/2006
